Valentines Day. I'm not usually Mopey McMoperson and it's not like I sat around the house all day going "poor single me." Today was a lame day for me though. I feel this huge urge to clean my apartment ala Mommy Dearest. I'm talking about hands and knees, scrubbing out the tub and informing my roommates that I'm not angry at THEM, I'm angry at all ( Read more... )

Ew ew ew ew ew.

Untidiness is one thing, but when things start to stink, you're in trouble. I'm sorry you have to live with that. Are you stuck with the filth, or do you have the option to move away? That's crazy (and unhygenic, IMO)!

It's my lease. They're subletting. They've also bonded and think I'm super anally retentively tidy and a fogey because I don't want to paint my nails pink and give each other silly nicknames. I also don't want to talk in a little girl voice. Man, I'm so lame.

Ouch! I'm sorry. If the situation gets too bad, I hope you can figure a way out, like transferring the lease to one of them or just kicking them out or something. I'm totally with you on the perpetual slumber party, though. I guess I'm lame, too. :(

I'm never moving out of this place. It was too hard to move all my furniture in. In a year, if I'm still miserable, their sublet will be up. I'll be taking my chances on more strangers though. Right now I find them extremely irritating, but it's not like they're malicious or crazy. They're just immature and they're bad influences on each other (the older one has basically "adopted" the younger one and has re-made her in her very immature imagine. Originally I agreed to let the younger one have the room because she seemed so mature.)

:( I've had so many crazy roommates, so I really sympathize. Every time I find perfect roommates, then end up eventually repatriating. These past few months, I've lived alone for the first time in years.

I'm jealous! I'd love to live alone.

Actually I have a former roommate who once we got the kinks ironed out, he was the best roommate I ever had. He basically became my little brother. We had so much FUN, yet we respected each other's spaces and needs. Even though he was an extrovert, he understood that I needed introvert cave time and I understood that he needed to use puns in inappropriate situations. It worked out perfectly!

What? They're not on the lease? I say put up an ad on Craigslist. It's time, and they have no leg to stand on. Or, if you're looking for more students, put up an ad in a few weeks, for May 1st (or whenever is student moving day in your area).

I know this sounds mean, but - and I'm in my 30's and still learning this - growing up for reals means recognizing your limits and setting up boundaries.

Anyway, obviously that's just an idea. I just hope that things get better. Your home is your sanctuary - it should reduce your stress, not add more!

I signed a contract with them that they'd sublet for a year. Plus, they're not malicious. They respect a lot of my hard boundries. I told them I wouldn't tolerate drugs or cigerettes, and they respect that. They're just immature.
