Today is Obama's inauguration in DC.
Part of me wants to take the day off and go charging downtown to experience the day with the hoards that have descended on the area. To witness history and be part of something bigger.
The rest of me (and current majority voter) says that today isn't important as anything other than a symbol. More important is the new administrations changed focus and the actions that follow this day.
Yesterday I joined the president in spirit and volunteered with a local shelter, making lunch for 45 -60 folks with a group of George Mason students, staff, faculty, and community. That, to me, provided a much greater connection with what this change means - a focus on people, not business. On working together, on breaking down the money machines and on building responsibility back into the political system.
Do I believe that Obama can accomplish all or this. No, not really.
But I Hope he can. And that's more than I'd ever expected to feel for a politician.
