An offer

So I got an offer over the weekend. It wasn't a bad offer, but it was less than I've made since I moved out here from Ohio. I counter-offered, asking for a bit more money and an extra half week of Annual Leave to compensate for the rather large pay cut i would be taking (even pointing out that, in actuality, the extra half week would just keep my leave the same as my current position). I haven't heard back from them since. I really want this job, but there are certain financial and geographical realities I have to deal with.

Geographic reality - need to live close to the metro and/or other public transit to avoid having a second car/car payment/ insurance payment.

Financial reality - it costs a lot to live in Nova (northern VA). Costs even more to live near the metro in NOVA.

Given time Al and I might be able to move such that I could afford the pay they were off offering, and if we didn't have another 8 months on the lease, i would certainly consider it. But in the meanwhile, I'd have to pay out the difference from my savings and that would suck hardcore, since i've worked very hard to accrue those savings.

On the otherhand, I'm getting to the point where I'm considering turning in my resignation without having anything else to fall back on, and lets face it, that'll eat up my savings even faster.

We'll see what they come back with on my counter-offer. In the meantime, I'm going to look at my budget again and see if I can't find some more stuff to cut out.

So wish me luck and send me good thoughts on my efforts to squeeze water from a stone
