The nephews have come and gone and left me an Al happy and exhausted in their wake. They are growing up so fast, its kind of shocking. I have gotten used to doubling recipes when i have guests over to make sure i have enough food to feed people. Well, this weekend the locusts, I mean my brother and his family, proved that visitations from them will henceforth need triple batches of food. Vodka pasta sauce barely lasted long enough for everyone to blink. Amazingly, children and adults both adored it and wolfed it down (the boys are very good eaters, and more adventurous than most their ages (almost 2 to almost 9...meep).
This morning, they were being so good and trying to be quiet (not their fault i sleep as lightly as i do). They woke me up anyway, so i took them all downstairs (except the baby who was sleeping with his parents in a different room) and we made breakfast. That's right folks, me, the OCD chef (c) made crepes and blinz filling with youngesters. Yes, their was flour, egg, sugar and all sorts of other substances strewn about my kitchen. Yes, I washed my hands repeatedly and constantly. But it was still awesome. Really only two of the three were constant helpers (the 8 yr old and the 4 yr old), but they loved it. I am so making christmas cookies with them this year.
I also had help last night when i made funfetti cupcakes with homemade choc cream cheese frosting.
So much fun.
I even had the joy of watching one brother steal food from another and having my brother scold him for it. Why was this fun, you ask? Well my brother did that to me for a majority of my life (and continues to this day) and an opportunity to give him unrelenting shit like that doesn't come around very often.
Plus, my brother and I even found several stolen moments to interact with each other as siblings and friends instead of my uncle to his dad, or my Fiance to his Husband. So i got good brother time as well. Yay.
As i get older, I appreciate more and more that I got very lucky with my siblings.
Anyways, I'm just winding down from the whole weekend, and this is the sort of thing i want to remember. Luckily, many pictures were had, and soon, I shall post them on my flikr site, in case anyone is curious.
nephews,
weekend
