Election Day Countdown

VOTE TOMORROW!

You know, in case you've been living under a rock and don't realize it's Election Day in the U.S. tomorrow. Everyone vote if you haven't already sent in your ballots early! And be informed about it. You can check out your ballot ahead of time at your local board of elections website. Obama and McCain aren't the only people on there you know. Government starts at the bottom with all your city/county/state issues too, so don't forget about them!

I'm actually feeling very positive about the election tomorrow. I've been lurking at the edges of the election coverage only occasionally recently, as I decided long ago in favor of Obama and didn't particularly feel like inciting frustration and disillusionment in myself by following too closely. Things seem to be trending in his favor though (*knocks on wood*).

So I spent most of the morning today figuring out who all those other people on the ballot were. You know, the ones with all the signs posted around town for positions responsible for...uhh...what again? I never really trust all the political flyers shoved in my mailbox, so I like to try to and find out people's positions directly from the source. And wow, some of their websites are truly atrocious and uninformative. I'm so glad the newspaper here has a fairly decent and easy to navigate candidate comparison section.

I tried to use Vote Smart, and it helped somewhat but was unwieldy with all the clicking around required. Judge4yourself was a Godsend though, because it's not like judicial candidates can campaign on issues or anything. I'm totally willing to accept the ratings of a coalition of really smart lawyer organizations though. They certainly have a more informed opinion than I do, that's for sure.

Some days I still have hope for our political system and our citizens. :-D Hopefully I'll be able to say the same again tomorrow!

I think I need to go watch some West Wing now...
