Grrr Hmph Transgenders and Prostitution Hmph
I don't understand the linkage between the transgender issue and the prostitution issue. I am all for transgender rights, but I have HUGE issues with the legalization of prostitution. Lately, it seems that I can't honestly support transgenders without supporting sex work as well. Every petition I see, every initiative, every demonstration - links transgender with sex work.
I will not support sex work. I will not support the legalization of prostitution, sponsored by a handful of privileged Americans and Europeans, while hundreds of thousands of women from the third world are trafficked every day. I can't pretend that sex work is nothing but another employment choice for a liberated woman, while 99% of all sex workers in the world are brutalized, raped, and kept like prisoners in locked rooms without food or water.
Israel is one of the world's biggest traffickers of prostitition. Women are shipped to my homeland from all over the world to become slaves. Legalizing sex work will not help them. It will help their owners. It will help the customers of their owners. I can't for the life of me see how it will help transgender rights.
