Toe Tapping

Michael and I often give each other experiential gifts as presents - concert tickets, fancy restaurants, massages or museums. This habit has brought us to see Paco de Lucia, Arlo Guthrie, Anuna, and the Smothers Brothers, to name a few.

Michael's gift to me this year was dinner at a new restaurant in Yountville (near Napa). It was lovely - we sat outside overlooking their gardens while the sun went down over the Mayacamas Mountains. Then on to the Napa Opera House to see Natalie MacMaster.

I had never heard of MacMaster before, but she's a celtic fiddler, which I love, so Michael bought the tickets just because.

It may have been the most fun I've had at a concert, ever. She had an incredible band, which included a phenomenal piper, a dancing piano player, and a 14 year old cello player who is violating the laws of biology to be able to play as soulfully as he does at that young age.

MacMaster herself is bright, funny, and celtic tap-danced while fiddling, even thought she is five months pregnant.

At the end, the entire crowd was on its feet, clapping along with the music and dancing in the aisles.

Food, fun and music...what on earth could be better?
