London trip

I had a fabulous time on my first-ever solo vacation! (Poor husband couldn't get off work.) I spent a week in London and crammed everything I possibly could - Westminster Abbey, the Tower, St. Paul's, the National Gallery, the British Museum, the Victoria & Albert, Windsor Castle, and Hampton Court. I did everything on my own except for a bus tour to Salisbury Cathedral, Stonehenge, and Bath. Needless to say, my feet were killing me by the end of the trip.

When I visited the crown jewels, the spot for the big State Crown was marked "in use". That's how I found out that Parliament was opening the next day. Since the Westminster Tube station was closest to my hotel, I encountered a lot of blocked streets and anti-war protesters.

I saw "Macbeth" at the Globe Theatre. They apparently got a good deal on stage blood because they sure used a lot.

I had a "Godfather" moment when I encountered a pullchain toilet in an Italian restaurant. No hidden guns, though.

It took me 40 years to get there (as a birthday present to myself) and now I can't wait to go back!
