I read that he still can't be called "Sir" yet...how about "Doctor"? "Lord"?

nope not yet.

I'm convinced the only reason he's getting a knighthood is cos the success of House, the way these things are dished out is very cynical IMO.

He can only be called Hugh Laurie OBE; he only gets a post-nominal title. He's now an Officer of the British Empire, putting him higher up in line for the throne. (Something like 583 people have to die first though.)

Officer is the second lowest rank behind Commander (CBE), Knight/Dame Commander (KBE/DBE), Knight/Dame Grand Cross (BGE). and ahead of Member (MBE). Only the two highest ranks are allowed the Sir/Dame title, but only if they are the Queen's subjects. (Sorry, no Sir Steven Spielberg.)

What about Stephen? And Emma? I love hugh to death and all, but haven't the other two done just the tiniest bit more for England?
