Thoughts and impressions of Doctor Who 6x03

I watched the episode with jenepel when it aired last night, but then we went to play tennis and I was EXHAUSTED afterward (and sore OMG) so I'm only now getting to this post.

I don't really have much to say about this episode to be honest. It was okay for a filler episode. Nothing super enlightening or mind blowing, a multitude of plot holes, some funny moments and some nice guest stars.

Things I enjoyed:

1. The fun, light, bantery nature between Eleven, Rory and Amy

2. Amy being locked up by pirates and then surprising them by going straight for the weapons. This amused me greatly. Oh yeah, and then Amy sword fighting with pirates. That was also unexpectedly cool.

3. I liked the actors playing the captain of the ship and the child. They both worked well with the cast I thought.

4. When they walked into the sick bay and we got "Toby!", "Rory", "TARDIS!" Hee, I laughed. That was pretty near perfect and probably my favourite moment in the whole episode.

5. Seeing Amy be the one who was a bit insecure and jealous was a nice change. Also, seeing her be so singularly fixated on Rory was nice too. I'm hoping this means the triangle of last series is officially over.

6. The twist of the siren actually being a healer... that was clever and not something I expected.

Things that baffled me (or you know, just plot holes):

7. The TARDIS vanished and Eleven barely seemed bothered by it. WHAT? Ten went down into a pit of potential hell to find his TARDIS and Eleven hardly seemed worried. I don't get that. (mind you, given point number 4 above I suppose he could just be better at hiding his inner angst?)

8. If the siren was a healer, why did she need to trick people into coming with her? And why did she get all evil when they didn't? That made no sense to me.

9. Reflective surfaces?!?!? Really? There are so many flaws in this plot point I can't even go there, but lets just say there was lots of eye rolling and scoffing coming from jenepel and I while we watched.

10. Rory nearly died because he drowned, right? Why then, when he was revived, was there no water? He should have been coughing up water.

Anyway, I'm really looking forward to next week's episode. It looks like it will be really good and definitely less fillery. And it's written by Neil Gaiman (who is adorable in interviews I have discovered) so really it's already got a leg up on this one from that.

Oh, one other thing. Is it just me, or has Eleven seemed to have developed a Hat Fetish since the Fez? Because this is the third episode this season he's donned a different hat: Fez, Cowboy Hat, Space Suit Helmet, Pirate Hat - Am I missing anything?

ETA: OMG! I totally forgot to mention the only actually important thing from the episode: The weird wooden peep hole in the door with woman in the eye patch behind it - just like what we saw last week when Amy was in the house. I had suddenly remembered that while we were watching and then completely forgot about it (Hmm perhaps the Silence are at work?) but anyway, definitely an interesting thing - something to do with the main season arch I'm sure, but as to what? I have nothing. No theories or thoughts or anything. But I'm intrigued. I hope we don't have to wait too long for the pay off (although we probably will. *sigh*)
