“Just what do you think you’re doing?” Luke’s gruff voice from the doorway to the living room made Lorelai jump and she dropped the gift she’d been holding. It landed on its side under the overflowing Christmas tree.
“I was just shaking it,” Lorelai squeaked as Luke stormed over to the tree and tucked the present securely into the corner.
“That’s cheating.” Luke accused. “We agreed to wait to exchange gifts on Christmas Eve.”
“I know, Luke, but it’s hard.” Lorelai pouted.
Luke flung his hands in the air in exasperation. “It was your idea!”
Lorelai huffed, “Yeah, well, it was a dumb idea. I wanna know what you got me.”
“You will. Tomorrow.” Luke placed his hand on her shoulder and gently steered her toward the kitchen.
“But -“
“Tomorrow,” he said firmly.
Lorelai sighed over-dramatically. “Fiiiiine.”

The next evening, Lorelai was practically vibrating with excitement when she and Luke finally settled down on the sofa to exchange their first Christmas gifts as an official couple.
Lorelai quickly reached out to snatch her gift off his lap.
Luke snorted. “Can’t you ever be patient?”
“Have you met me?”
He rolled his eyes. “Well, at least let me hand it to you.”
As soon as it was in her grasp she tore off the paper, revealing a beautiful blue scarf.
“Oh, Luke, it’s lovely.”
“I saw it and it made me think of you.”
She looked at him questioningly.
“It’s the same shade as my favourite hat - the one you gave me.”
Lorelai felt a tug in her chest. “Awww, Luke, thank you. That’s really sweet.”
She wrapped it around her neck before tugging the blue hat out of Luke’s back pocket and sliding it firmly onto his head. “There, now we match!”
Luke leaned toward her. “So we do.”
