DW Reaction: Episode 6x11 "The God Complex"

WOWOWOWOWOWOW Okay, can I just say that I did NOT see that ending coming AT ALL. I didn't expect much from this episode at all so the fact that the last 15 minutes pretty much BLEW MY MIND is a bit of a shock.

The actual storyline with the monster and the hotel was just kinda meh for me. I didn't mind it but I didn't overly like it.

I DID like the twist at the end with it being about faith and not fear, and I particularly am fascinated about how it came back down to Amy and her faith in the Doctor and in particular her WAITING for him. It seems to be a bit of an extension from what we had last week. It seem waiting is a bit of a theme this season.

But what's really interesting to me is that this all lead the Doctor to decide that it was no longer safe for Amy and Rory to travel with him so he DEPOSITS THEM AT A HOUSE... which um where did he get the house and the car? My flatmate was a bit confused by that but I was immediately thinking "OMG IT ALL MAKES SENSE".

Let's see if I can explain this. For starters, I don't think this is the end of Rory and Amy - I'm positive they'll be back for the last two episodes because it seems like we've come full circle. At the beginning of S6, if you recall, Amy and Rory were AT HOME when they got the invitation from the Doctor to come to Utah. But the Doctor who sent that was a Doctor who was over 1000 years old and who ended up dead on a beach... Which means, it was technically THEIR future. So now they've travelled with the Doctor all season - a younger Doctor. And now that Younger Doctor who was definitely older when they met him in that corn field has learned that he's going to die soon and has left them at a house... in theory to keep them safe, but I think it's just a matter of now waiting for things to fall into place. I'm certain we'll be revisiting Utah soon.

The thing with all of this is that it means that what we've seen of Rory and Amy this season is both their past and their future at this point which OMG TIMEY WHIMEY MAKES MY HEAD HURT!!!!

Okay, now that I've got that out there were some other thoughts I have about this episode:

-I really liked Rita. I found her interesting and in particular the Doctor's reaction to her was fascinating to me. In hindsight I wonder if some of his comments to her where he compared her to Amy or told her about traveling were foreshadowing for Amy and Rory leaving at the end.

- YAY BB!Amelia! I was, as usual, delighted to see her. It was quite a sad scene though as the Doctor convinced her to stop believing in him :(

- Did anyone else see the irony of the Doctor's door being #11??? Also, does anyone have any theories on what was behind that door for him?

- interestingly I found that Eleven in this episode had more in common with Ten than we've ever seen before. He didn't quite go to the emo state but all that stuff he said to Amy when he was trying to stop her believing in him indicated that he doesn't really have faith in himself. That he still views himself as dangerous and perhaps this was a wake up for him? I don't know it just struck me as very very Doctory and very in line with what we've seen of the Doctor in the past.

-also, I'm now wondering how much of the Doctor's choice to leave Amy and Rory back in their real life at the end is guilt for telling everyone to draw on their faith and then getting Rita and the others killed because of it.

I feel like without rewatching I can't say anything else intelligent about this episode so I'll stop there. I'd love to hear everyone else's thoughts on this though.
