Now.. with Saryon, or Aperion, or Stonegate or whatever you call it..

I've been trying to get things done, or at least get things looking more than half complete. The roleplay section is functionable, but seriously needing an overhaul to match the style I want it. The problem is in the implementation of it. How can I mix both freeform and limitation? See here's the plan, sorta. I want freeform rp, but I want limitations as well. Magic first of all is broken beyond belief in most freeform to the point everyone thinks they are a god. I'm thinking I might go with a similar system to White Wolf with the whole dots method. Now of course, you won't have to advance with xp or anything, you can simply be whereever you want on the scale. With this, I'll also want to do something like spells go up to level 10, but players can only achieve level 5. Spells additionally will probably follow paths of discipline. Instead of just a big random spell pool for wizards, they basically upgrade or modify their spells as spell level increases.

For example, one spell path could look like this: (the number of O's is the level)
O Barkskin - Protections from an unarmed attack
OO Shield - Protection from mundane missile weapons
OOO Stoneskin - Protection from mundane weapons
OOOO Magic Shield - Protection from magical missile weapons (but not enchanted)
OOOOO Impunity - Protection from magical weapons
OOOOOO Hermetic Shield - Protection from area-of-effect (AOE) attacks
OOOOOOO Magical Armor - protects against all spells and greater magical weapons
OOOOOOOO Invulnerability - protects against all effects of any sort, good or bad
OOOOOOOOO Globe of Invulnerability - Creates a sphere with the same effects as Invulnerability

Now it may not end up like that, but a player could only get up to level 5, and thats all a player can achieve. Like disciplines in Vampire. Elders get the best shit. In this case, mortals can't progress further than that. So really, levels 6 - 10 are merely a flavor, and provide a method of saying that there are forces more powerful than the player out there, and not to ever be used.

Now while all this sounds neat, it gets really damn detailed, which I think steps on the toes of freeform a little. There is no shoot from the hip magic rp with that, which is both good and bad. So otherwise, how do I exactly keep things freeform but try to add the flavor in as well. As it stands right now, I believe I'll make all the details, but not require its use, and maybe perhaps its limitation. Like a rule that says "While you aren't limited to the spells here, this list provides an example of how powerful your spells can get." or something like that. More thinking on it will be required..

Anyways, maybe more later
