The birthday weekend
Tra la la, so yesterday (18th of April) was the birthday and in theory I've become one year more experienced and wiser. Well lets say thats the theory at least :P
For one thing I went through the whole of yesterday with a rather nasty hangover which lasted till round 11pm. That definately made me feel my age;) However at least I was able to keep it together at lunchtime when friends & relatives came over and there was a veritable mountain of food to mow through. I managed to eat a whole tray of homemade lasagna by myself *burp*
Saturday night was the source of my hangover. Firstly went to a nice jazz concert (hmm that sounds so pretentious...) and then went to this nice little locale which served copious amounts of wine. I guess mixing the wine with the grappa (Italian aquavit) wasn't a good move, but hey it seemed like a great idea at the time! After dropping my date off at home (yes that right no sex for me, just a cuddle & a kiss sigh) I was filling a bit *ahem* unfulfilled so I decided to go "racing".
"Racing" is quite a common little past-time late at night on weekends in Rome. Only city cars are used and you bomb down the roads at max 120-130 km/h with the average speed being about 90 km/h. Not quite great speeds, and nothing like what you see in flicks like Fast & Furious, but then you only race with city cars.
Its quite fun really, good adrenalin rush, and objectively very stupid thing to do (especially considering my recent past...). But hey!
Was a good night my opponent was a young 21 year old idiot who had just gotten his new car, a Volkswagen Lupo. I have a Honda Logo. He had the advantage with the newer car and slightly more horsepower while I had a touch more experience. Like the old sicilian adage goes
"Youth & exuberance are no match for old age & treachery"
Well thats ye olde update for the now!
