Wow's 2006 Song pf the Year:
"Bad Day" by Daniel Powter
So, it wasn't released in 2006, so sue me. In fact, it was a raging hit over in Europe last winter.
And it was also an Apple Free Music Download over a year and half ago.
But, no doubt, the American public needed it's 9 months to digest what was going on in Europe. So, it topped the US Charts on April 8th. And now, it's up for Best Male Vocal Performance by the Grammys... for 2006. So I guess the song didn't really exsist until it became a hit here, no?
So anyways, the song is good. As one person expressed to me, "it's probably the only song on the air right now that will still be in 5 years." I concur. The music (especially pop) blows right now. Maybe next year will be a turn around? I doubt it.
I'd make some grand rant about how if I ever hear "Hips Don't Lie" or "Unfaithful" again I'd off myself. Or how someone needs to put Fergie out of her misery. But all and all, I don't really care that much. Maybe I should start picking songs a few years after the fact... they seem to become more popular later on... the good ones at least.
There were a few other solid hits this year: "Crazy" by Gnarles Barcley proved that bizzare can be a hit. "Irreplacable" by Beyonce proved that, yes, she can actually sing. And that's about it.
Thanks for listening.
