Teh gout fairy - Part 2

So, even though I have dramatically altered my diet, apparently, I am not free of teh gout fairy yet. I have had another flare up, but this time my doctor wanted to do the only test that will 100% confirm it to be gout. Basically, they have to stick a needle into the inflamed joint and extract some fluid to put under the microscope and verify the presence of uric acid crystals. This has to be done under a constant X-ray so that they can see where the need is going. Suffice it to say, I have a new definition of pain. So, what did that accomplish?

Well, really it just made my doctor comfortable with the fact that I now have chronic gout. Apparently the previous three episodes and the fact that they all responded to colchicine (yes, it only works on gout which you think would have been a clue) wasn't enough of a clue for him so he had to put me through this test in order to tell me, yes, you have gout, even though you are atypical of gout sufferers who generally speaking have elevated blood serum levels of uric acid. Even though medical documentation clearly states that the presence of elevated uric acid levels in blood serum isn't necessarily an indicator one way or the other, apparently that is my doctor's primary indicator. What a tard. Its been coming for a while, but its time to start looking for a new doctor, one that perhaps has a modicum of diagnostic capability. Oh well, in the meantime, he can at least get me started on suppressive medication. Its just irritating that I have to double check my doctor's work and pay him at the same time.
