Considering just how busy I've been in the middle of this year, more travel is the last thing most people would go for. I, however, am not most people. :)
The third minor European trip: Alpine European trundle, 3-8 June
- 03 Jun: train from London, UK to Zurich, Switzerland (via the Eurotunnel);
- 04 Jun: train to Lucerne, Switzerland;
- 05 Jun: train to Bern, Switzerland;
- 06 Jun: train to Milan, Italy;
- 07 Jun: train to Verona, Italy;
- 08 Jun: train to Venice, plane back to London, UK.
Granted, this trip was actually requested by Aoife of all people, who - after I took her out for her 40th birthday recently - wanted to do something return the favour for my birthday, and realised she hadn't actually travelled overseas with me in all the time we've known each other (visiting her in Dublin in 2009 doesn't count). So she requested Switzerland, for reasons she has only now just revealed: she's treating me to a Dead Can Dance gig!
As one of Melbourne's best musical exports (along with Crowded House, Nick Cave, Hunters and Collectors and Something for Kate), I've been a huge Dead Can Dance fan for years, even introducing it to Aoife some time after we started going out in 2006 (Jasmina, to my surprise, already knew about them and also loved them!). She obviously noted when I'd excitedly informed her they had reformed and even released a new album, so she asked for a possible trip together to Switzerland in early June, and surprised me with tickets to their gig in Zurich. :)
This will be the last trip I will take - well, my trip to the former Yugoslavia was supposed to be, until an impromptu birthday trip found me in Andorra! - in quite some time. After all, this will be my fourth trip in nearly 3 months!
