Lightning-quick update from Kuala Lumpur before my credit runs out.
The last week has been a complete whirlwind, with everything leading up to my sister's wedding, trying to help out the family (mostly my mother) with odd jobs where I can - including acting as a tour-guide to two of our Belgian cousins (who had flown in from Brussels the day before me to attend the wedding) through central Melbourne - and then of course the big day itself, which despite all the stress and the mountains of itty-bitty details to cover went off pretty much without a hitch. The rest was wind-down and clean-up, helping my cousins out with car hire for their onward drive to Sydney, and then suddenly finding myself back at Melbourne airport, having completely ran out of time, before I had time to blink; I barely got any time for myself, but then most of the family (including myself) had devoted every last second to the wedding it was to be expected.
So I'm back in Malaysia temporarily, having flown into Kuala Lumpur early this morning, and reliving old memories by spending the 5hrs I had waiting for a connecting flight dashing into the city and wandering around; the last time I was here was 6 years to the fortnight, so it's been fascinating comparing those old memories from a green backpacker fresh out of his own home country 6 years ago to those of today from an older, wiser, and more experienced backpacker returning after a few years. Unsurprisingly, unlike Melbourne, KL hasn't changed all that much.
So once my flight is ready, I'm off to Colombo, to spend the next few days detouring through Sri Lanka - which I was last there a little over 5 years ago, in April 2006 - so it appears my trip back home to London is very much a nostalgic one. I'll be back there Saturday morning, fresh for another nightshift that night. Old habits regarding returning from holidays and working very soon afterwards are hard to break, it appears.
Right, must dash!
