We're at dinner. Mom, her husband [Leonard], his brother and wife, me and Marie. Leonard's brother is talking about his son-in-law, who is a habitual liar. Mom's response?
"He's just like my ex-husband. He would..."
Fortunately, Leonard had the good sense to remember the relationship between her ex-husband and her present and attentive son. His attempt to quickly and cleanly cut her off was impressive.
I let it go. No sense making things rough for the weekend. But I did feel like asking: "You're the one who preaches the Christian notion of 'forgive and forget.' Is there a part I missed about a 30 year moratorium before forgetting?"
