The problem with celibacy and virginity keeping yourself pure for God is that its based on the idea that a non-virgin is a less valuable commodity in the sex trade; non virgins are damaged goods. It goes back to a time when women (and men) could be bought and sold as sexual objects. Catholicism and other religions that use celibacy as a model try to keep a person from reaching sexual maturity. Sexual experimentation is essential to develop sexual maturity; repression of sexuality prevents this maturing process.
