How do we deal with loss, Captain America: Civil War

WARNING! I'm going to spoil the shit out of the movie. If you have not seen it (shame), do NOT click the cut text! If I spoil it for you, own damn fault.

So I saw Civil War with the girlfriend today for the second time. And to her credit, she first came up with it. So really, she's the brains behind this post. But, I'm going to put my twist on it, and center it around Tony (Iron Man) and Steve (Captain America).

Most of the characters has lost something

T'Challa: His father
Ross: His Daughter
Clint: The Hawkeye (he retired, though I'm kind of stretching it)
Wanda: Her brother, her town

Steve: Agent Margaret "Peggy" Carter
Tony: Nearly everything

Let's look at the two main characters of the movie. On the surface. Steve is a young, hot-headed, altruistic soldier that wants to do right and is not willing to be chained by regulations, rules, and bureaucracy. On the surface, Tony is older, more mature, cautious, careful, and willing to play by the rules. Again, on the surface, these two ideals should clash and these do make for the infighting in the Avengers.

But, early in the movie, Steve is notified that Peggy has died. The woman he was supposed to out on a date. The people he holds dear are slipping away. His one last remaining hope, Bucky. He knows Bucky is out there.

For Tony, him and pepper, for all intents and purposes, broke up. He's not running his company. He never married, no children. He's also losing his mental health. He is struggling with PTSD. He is also directly blamed for a death. Who or what does he have left, the Avengers. They're probably the closest thing to family Tony has.

Once Bucky resurfaced, it is almost immediate that Steve and Tony change. Steve is making every effort to try and save Bucky. Tony, is making every effort to try to keep the Avengers together by signing the accords. Steve can't lose Bucky. Tony can't lose the Avengers. Eventually the two and their goals are so far apart that they fracture the Avengers.

The ultimate point is when it is revealed Steve knew that his parents were killed even if he didn't know it was Bucky who did it. At that moment, Tony cracks. The whole movie, Tony has been holding it together. He even got a glimmer of hope that things can go back to "the way they were". Then Steve revealed he knew and Tony can't hold it in anymore and starts assailing him. Steve's overwhelming desire to save Bucky cost Tony the Avengers and now the man he thought was an ally knew about his parent's death and Tony couldn't take it anymore. Tony screams to Steve at the end "That's not your shield. You don't deserve to own that. My father made that for you!" Tony is trying one last grasp to not lose it all, something of his father.

However, it doesn't end badly. Steve keeps Bucky safe on ice (again) while they figure out how to fix him. Also, Steve reaches out to Tony saying that if they ever need help, call him up. Tony has the Avengers back.

So...tell me how wrong I am
