Post-Christmas commentary

Dec 27, 2010 02:43

Before I cover the finale of this days meme with my confession, I figure now would be a good point in the entry to address how my holiday went and such.

Wednesday: I decided to call Nana up to take me by Acrux to pick up my check, and to also go ahead and deposit my bag with clothes and gifts for Blairsville at their place (thus avoiding having to swing back by the house after working at the paper before dropping me off at my grandparents). While I was waiting, I received an awesome E-Tank mug in the mail. I got my check without incident and also decided to finally cash in my class ring. The appraiser was surprised to discover that my ring was 18k white gold (18k class is relatively rare for class rings) and valued it at 145.01. I was very happy at this, but told Nana and those that might blab about the truth behind the money that I'd simply found a 10 ounce nugget of gold in the backyard. Other than passing two or three opportunities to shortcut around (including whizzing right past my bank without thinking), I decided to just sleep over at my grandparents.

Thursday: I woke up around 7 a.m. and helped out with various things, including looking over what groceries I could take back to the house, including a bottle opener for the occasional Mexican Coke I'll buy. Rumors of work at the paper being easy turned true, as the small crew finished up the lighter work an hour before I even clock in when I show up. I learned this from Matt who told me he was on his way to High Falls. I asked him if he wanted his present before he took off. He came by, we talked for a bit and loved the Munchkin and "LED20." With no work to worry about (I hadn't gone to bed since I figured I probably wouldn't be called in anyway), I settled in to sleep a little after midnight.

Friday: No matter how many times she says they'll be gone by morning, it's always around 1 p.m. that they officially take off for Blairsville. We stopped by Sam's (shopping on Christmas Eve...who'd think it would be busy?) to pick up a 25 pound bag of rice for some of the Blairsville neighbors (which Nana was repaid $100), and then by a stop n shop for a single bag of ice. The ride up was uneventful, and I had my mp3 player going to block out all the country and Southern Gospel on the radio.

Saturday/Christmas Day: I woke up at 6 a.m. to snow, this is notable because Georgia has not had a Christmas snow since 1882 (and that was a mere 0.3 inches). By the end of the weekend, I think Blairsville had a total accumulation of around 8-9 inches. I gave Jack the Last of the Mohicans DVD I'd ordered for him back on the 2nd, and the amazon dealer finally shipped it off for me to have Thursday. Nana eventually woke up and I was able to give her the collapsable collander I'd bought her. I wasn't able to give Squirt her lolcat book or see my Aunt Renee, Uncle Steve, or their two daughters because those respective parties were snowed in/stuck from the snow/ice. Dinner consisted of ham, lasagna, rolls, collard greens, collard greens with portabello mushrooms, whole kernel corn, mashed potatoes (without gravy :-( ), an awesome CostCo apple pie, a cheap pumpkin pie, and a mediocre chocolate pie. If Squirt had been able to arrive, KFC, biscuits, mashed potatos WITH gravy, and cole slaw would have been added (and honestly, would've been overkill). I didn't receive any presents that day, unless you count the white Christmas. *shrug* I guess I'll count it.

Sunday: More snow, with nothing major of note occuring.

1. Like another friend, I'm not sure how much longer I can really do things within the furry fandom. More specfically, I'm not sure how much longer I'll be doing cons. Sure, I'm planning on attending the impeding year's FWA but beyond that I'm honestly not sure if I could make it to a full decade of attendance, though honorary life time membership would be nice--one less expense.
