Sleeping with the enemy

I don't like this, but it is my job. Lucifer has crossed a line this time. We know it was his blood used in the attack on Dan and the murder of Lucia. I grab what I need from my desk and slip into the ether finding him in Hell.

I know Andrew is close to walking out. He has put a lot on the line doing this but it's important and I can't have it failing.

I watch as Lucifer snarls at Andrew once again.

I have told you!

I can see that subject is a brick wall and it will only flare up again if Andrew pursues it. At present Lucifer is angry but stable.

I send to Andrew.

Don't persist with asking who. Ask him about the fallen one.

"Why does the fallen one interest you so much?"

I'm not sure why Anderson wants me to ask, but I am grateful for the help.

I narrow my eyes at his change of subject. I look to the mirror and smirk. "The good detective I am guessing."

I slide Andrew's chair over to him and move to my own. "I shall amuse him." I sneer at Andrew. "And keep you in your job."

I sit and glare at him. "He is a blight on this earth. A mockery. I would see him removed."

Now it is me he mocks. He knows I want this to end, but he will not be the first to back down. But his interest in Dan interests me.

"Why do you consider him all this?"

That he does not get why infuriates me. I stand and bang my fist on the table between us. "He chose to fall! For love! One made in his image mocks the father with such betrayal and disrespect yet he walks the earth once more to bask in his light! For what sacrifice?! Love! Once again! He is rewarded for his sins ( ... )

I stumble back and listen to him. I understand his rage. He truly is being punished for his love. It is unjust and we sit here putting him on trail. To bring those who betrayed him down means he must be going after Gabriel. My mind races trying to make a connection, but to attack Elijah's wife and child.... there is no connection.

Anderson is trying to hold it together after this revelation. I'm barely hanging on and only doing so because of my love for Lucifer. I can't take him through the ether like this, not with his rage in full glory.

I stand and holler in my most commanding voice, "Lucifer!"

He turns and hisses at me, glaring and snarling and I feel my knees go weak and my lips quiver. Perhaps I am just another punishment given to him, but my love and desire for him is all consuming.

Lucifer gives one more snarl at Andrew then slips back into his darkness. I reach for the door into the interview room and notice how badly my hand shakes on the handle.

I have to pull hard on it to open it as it's buckled and warped on it's hinges.

I step into the room and look at Andrew. "Are you still up for this job Andrew?"

I slump down into the chair and shake my head, "I - I don't know. I fear I've done serious damage to my personal relationship," I look up at him, "I love him, I don't want to be the enemy."

I sigh and sit down in the other chair. "I am sorry Andrew. I honestly did not expect that."

I clasp my own hands together in an attempt to quieten my nerves. "But I need your help on this. Resources are stretched to the limit at the moment. I need someone of your standing and abilities."

I nod my head and sigh quietly. I remind myself I knew this more than just a possibility when I admitted my love for Lucifer. He is right it is unfair, but nothing is fair, nothing.

"He spoke of his revenge of his betrayers. Gabriel is the one who betrayed him to the maker. Whoever has his blood must be working toward that end. Why Dan and Lucia were attacked... I can see no connection," I run my hands through my hair, "but perhaps that is the point."

I am pleased when he starts talking about the case. I feel a load of relief that he is still on board.

It's when he says 'whoever has his blood' that something starts to click in my mind. I look up at Andrew. "Gabriel has a son. Remember that higher angel the council reviewed and let out. Tomek. When he was put away Gabriel pulled strings. His true identity was withheld. I only found out because I had to do the release."

I run my hand through my hair in frustration. "But I saw the casefile on him. He was arrested toward the end of the war. There was no evidence against him at all for what he was accused of. I don't see any motive here either."

Tomek... hmmm that's interesting. I remember him. There was alot of belief he had murdered many, but never any clear cut proof. Only once was he seen near one of the murder..... but never seen leaving.

"Can I see the files of the cases he was accused of? I remember something," I shake my head slightly, "damn it was a long time ago. But is he has been released recently he might be a place to start. What is his power? He must have one - or two."

I take out my phone and call down to archives and request the files be brought up to the interview room asap.

"From what I remember from the files he was a warrior angel. It is very unusual for a higher to be one of those. That's why it stood out to me." I sit back and cross my arms thinking. "I can't see why he would go after the three or what if anything he would have to do with this. I would have thought the one he would go after is Lord Gaspard. It was on his information that he was arrested."

"I still get the feeling these current attacks are just a smoke screen. Lucifer has a hatred for Dan, but that is not the revenge he spoke of. Lord Gaspard himself used this in the war. Draw attention away from the true target. That is how we lost so many high official that sparked the war."

I raise an eyebrow, "When was the last time you spoke to Lord Gaspard?"

I am undecided about the attacks being a smoke screen. I am inclined to agree with him but then who would be the real target and why. Plus I can't just go on a hunch and leave the three unprotected either.

Gaspard would be a good place to start though.

"It's been a while. Perhaps you should bring him in for a chat."

I stand up and pick up my jacket from the floor, "Yeah why not. I'm on a roll of pissing of powerful people. Let me know about those files. There was one where Tomek was actually seen walking into that building, but he was never seen after. Not that he should have, but that always stuck with me."

With that I slip into the ether and locate Lord Gaspard. I step out and into a secured area. I wait knowing to move forward would be certain death.
