Awww, you poor thing. It sounds typical of the jobcentre. There are a few competent people there but not enough, making such things highly probably - it's not a good sign when the person you see you're certain you're more qualified for their job than they are, as I felt when I went to my first appointment in Norwich. Had the same deal with the forms arriving late, though I must say they were forgiving of my not being able to fill all of them out. Hopefully the Cambridge people will be better than yours, since I'm facing signing on here soon, just so they can pay my income stamp whatsitsmabobs. Anyway, *massive hugs*
And this, ladies and gentlemen, is why anything run on a not-for-profit basis tends to suck - no accountability, no problem ownership by staff. there's a not-my-problem field around anything a bit weird or difficult to deal with.
Professional recruiters are a better bet I find - or talking to prospective empoyers myself. I had around 10 offers from recruiters (all for not-enough-salary-to-bother) and an interesting interview from a cv-library type website.
Anyway - I've never had anything useful apart from jobseeker's allowance (of around enough to eat for 3 days a week, without a house or travel, but i suspect id have got more in harder circumstances) out of the jobcentre. They do seem to be utterly useless, as far as I can tell.
*more hugs* is it possible to contact the employer direct? they'd probably be more sane than the 'centre...
gaaaaaaaaaah! *shudders* And here I thought that this here was the land of stupidly unhelpful civil services. By the way, I received your email (*hugses*) and will reply shortly (that means as soon as I get a chance to excavate my Reading boxes and find my notebooks with the lyrics).
