A wise man once wrote that for every moment of triumph, for every instance of beauty, many souls must be trampled. And so begins my strange tale of delight and disappointments about this weekend.
I dressed early in the evening, feeling a strange curiosity and I admit anxiety. A great deal of twists and turns had occurred in the last week.
Just a mere week ago, the faux-Elysium held and protected by Dominic LaRue was violated like a ruffied sorority co-ed during Rush Week.
Of course, it is quite easy to do such a thing when you have the proverbial bartender on your payroll. Dante once wrote that the inner most circle of hell was reserved for those that are traitors. Is not a host betraying his guests a betrayal of the highest kind? Why would anyone ever listen to such a man again?
Just the evening before, the former Steward Dominic LaRue declined to attend to the summons of both Prince Belson and Baron Malakai. He cowardly sent envoys in his place and informed them that he believed that they would strike him down. Despite the honorable Prince Belson and Baron Malaki’s assurances of safety, Dominic LaRue insisted that they should come to him because they were not trustworthy. It has been said that weak cowardly men judge others by the actions they have committed. It seems true in this case.
Prince Belson is a busy man. Far to busy to wait for some addled miscreant to have the honor to attend to a lawful summons. When he left to attend to other business, Dominic seemed to grow in courage. Oddly, his courage seemed to grow with the size of his entourage and he attempted catch up with Prince Belson. One glance from Papo and it seemed that Dominc figured out who was the superior predator in that forest. Or he left to change his undergarments.
And this night was a special occasion for my fair domain. The Carthian Movement was to host a game, in honor of Prince Belson opening an Elyisum in a grand estate on Bainbridge Island. I wondered what strange alliances might be created. I wondered who would rise and who would fall?
The honorable judges of the game were: Prince Belson, Prince Olivia Nova, Baron Malakai, Keeper Aaron Locke, Korey Blackwell, and myself.
The evening started off quiet. The guests seemed a bit uncertain as to the nature of the game of scandal, but they eagerly played. There was one minor misunderstanding. Ghost, from Olympia, decided to attend the gathering armed, wishing to check in his weapons. As he recently had been attending Mr. LaRue’s gatherings, this is perhaps understandable. He made proper apologies to the hosts and the matter was resolved.
We had several notable guests such as
Alexander Finn, Admired amongst the Carthians
Ovid, Respected amongst the Invictus
Levka Nova, Respected amongst the Invictus
I noticed that James Sand of the Olympia Carthians seemed exceptionally well behaved and intelligent. His city might wish to make note of that.
Michael Sangiovanni was quite witty. He knows the where and the why.
I also heard several ladies and one gentleman reply that they thought that Mr. Nova was quite sexy.
I noticed that in his benevolent mercy that Prince Belson allowed Dominic LaRue to meet with him briefly. Afterwards, it seemed that once again LaRue failed to recognize the superior predator in the forest.
The rest of the gathering was pleasant and entertaining.
Nearing the end of the gathering Prince Belson announced his new court.
Alexander McKael, of the Invictus, is the Sheriff of Kitsap/Tacoma.
Aaron Locke, of the Ordo Draco, is the Keeper of Elysium of Kitsap/Tacoma.
And I, Sorrow, have been named Harpy of Kitsap/Tacoma.
When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro. As harpy of Kitsap/Tacoma, I had the honor of making three announcements.
Manuel Vasquez, of the Lancea Sanctum, is considered by Nathaniel Green, Primarch of the Crone, to be a lying bastard. Prince Belson agrees and as such Manuel is no longer a respected member of our city. *
Lily of the Unaligned was once the harpy of Primarchs of Lord Nelson’s Imperium. She was informed that she was required to find a covenant. She failed to do so and thus lost her position. By the word of Prince Belson, she is no longer a Valued member of this domain.
And most important, Prince Bellson by vox populi is noted to be a Respected member of the domain of Kitsap/Tacoma.
Afterwards, the winner of the games of scandal was announced.
Zeal of the New Flesh was the winner. Many of the judges have given their rewards in private. He collected eleven blue chips.
The runner up was Mr. Harris. She collected seven blue chips. I am personally going to reward her. Mr. Harris please contact me privately for your prize.
Ashe, of the Crone, collected the most red chips and has been deemed the “Fool of the Bainbridge Elysium.”
The following were announced as the Patrons of the Bainbridge Elysium. These kindred have the honor of hosting their portrait in the Elysium and carrying the title of Patron
Baron Malakai for his delightful statues depicting the Princes of the Imperium.
Michael Giovanni for his daring exhibition and his gift of the a first edition copy of the Prince.
Joy of the New Flesh for her carving made from the ancient tusk of a wooly mammoth depicting a phoenix & dragon.
Once the winners were announced, everyone was wished a comfortable journey home. After all, it was guaranteed that they would be safe.
And now for a new segment for my little travel logs.
Kindred That I Fear:
Levka Alexinova: I do not believe much needs to be said about this.
Kindred That I Loathe:
Dominic “Douchebag” LaRue: The reasons are obvious. I wish I could claim credit for the nickname, but it was in regular use the entire evening.
