Ok, so here's a new challenge.
During my time in Jamaica, I will be *Positive*. I'm going to attempt something new, something wacky, something that I normally wouldn't touch with a ten foot pole.
I will be genuine, sincere, and nice. Beyond nice - I'm going to attempt to "exude positive energy"
That's right, Basil will attempt, for ten days, to enter full on hippie mode, where the phrase "we are all unique and special people" does not have a hidden message of "yeah, short bus special", or "they make him smoke the short doobie"
I will refrain from being snarky, in fact, I will attempt to find the line between "nice and sincere" and "damn that's creepy", and try to figure out why that line exists in the first place. I will attempt to breathe compassion, yet not in wussy way. Like I'm the benevolent king of my immediate surroundings or some such deal. The only down side is that I may have to stop being funny, or at least change the way my sense of humor works (look! A dead puppy! Ha ha ha!)
A lot of people do it - I'm going to see if if works for me. Besides, I've got Caroleena as a role model - I'm not sure how she does it, but I am deeply impressed by her. Of course, she's got 20 years on me, but if I work hard maybe I can catch up in 15 or so.
Again, this is not a given. I'm seeing if it works for me, or if, like the time I went Vegan, by the end of week one I was salavating at the idea of a steak.
Perhaps I will develop the deep and urgent need to kick a puppy. Or I might discover I like it, and give up on irony entirely. But this much I do know - I will give it my all - it begins friday at 11:15 AM.
