Dear internet
So I finally got news from the shop where my computer was being fixed. This time, it was the motherboard AND the video card.
Disgusted, I bought a new one. On which I added the 4 years of part replacement that I ought to have bought last time. (It is on my bill, but they seem to have forgotten to charge me for it. That makes me feel better about the whole incident.)
My old tower has been looted of RAM and the old HD and put into my new machine. That leaves it as a mostly empty shell, with just a working power supply and a cd burner, plus the lights. I am investigating turning it into a fish tank, since it has clear plexiglass on one side. The more I consider this, the better plan it seems to be.
