What a week for my parents to come visit. I'm so unbelievably weary and I don't know why. It's not them mind you, I'm just bone-tired.
There's a game I got recently that I think everybody should be made aware of. It's called Portal and it was packaged with a bunch of other cool Half-Life 2 games. What's so special about this game is that it's an action puzzle game. It's one of the few games that I enjoy where you're not blowing something up or punching somebody in the face. On top of that it's really funny. Essentially you play a human lab-rat who has to figure out a way to traverse a special kind of maze with pitfalls and seemingly unreachable areas. The tool that you are testing is a device that shoots out a portal where you point it and then you shoot a second portal to another place to connect them. You can walk through one portal and you'll pop out the second one.
I'll leave it at that for the moment but it's really a clever game and I'm sure it will garner a lot of recognition as it sees more players. Personally, I'm hoping to see a lot of player made maps that just expand the playability of the game. It has all these great concepts and with a such a realistic physics engine the sky is the limit.
Aside from that, I'm totally redesigning my concept for my environments class. There were some gothic cathedral elements that I'm going to try to push even further. It will require a lot more reference I'd say. Hopefully Grace Cathedral will suffice. Anyone have other suggestions for Gothic Cathedral style structures in the city? Please let me know if you do.
