Falwell redux

So maybe I was a bit harsh on the recently departed Jerry Falwell the other day. I read the transcripts from the interviews with Larry King from the past two nights, and if Larry Flint and Al Sharpton have good things to say about him, who am I to say anything if I never met the man. Well, Al Sharpton has always been one to speak his mind. I can't imagine him saying those things about Falwell if they weren't true. And Larry Flynt, for crying out loud. I certainly do agree that he said and did some very hurtful things.

I have no problem with people following a religion just as long as they don't try to cram it down my throat and tell me I'm going to Hell for not believing in what they believe.

I do have a problem with people trying to make a quick buck off of people's faith and spewing bullshit and hate.

I'm still waiting for someone to prove to me that there is a God. So far no has been able to do that.

Well, nobody ever will prove to you that there is a God. That's not the way it works.

I certainly have a problem with Falwell myself, for the exact same things you mention. I just have a difficult time totally dismissing someone as a human being. Which if I were to ever do to anyone, it would be Falwell. Cheney would be a close second.

Maybe he was pulling the wool over the eyes of Sharpton and Flint. I know he was a liar, the Bakker stuff and that Clinton documentary prove that.

Good point.

I never met them either.
