Over the weekend I went back to San Diego's jazz camp. I tried to play more appropriately for the genre this year but it put me way out of my comfort zone and so I kept it simple, mostly playing quarter notes. We played Wolverine Blues and Saturday Night Function for our final concert (I got assigned to two bands because we were short on drummers). Our trumpet player (normally the band leader) was new so Clint let me count off songs.
One new thing they did was have a class and jam session in the lobby. That got a lot of bystanders looking in. It was super cool.
It was Avalon's fourth birthday yesterday. She's already such a big girl in so many ways (physically and mentally) and very little in others. It's really hard to remember that my kids are, in the end, really young kids. There are times when it's almost like I'm talking to a fully formed adult. Other times ... not so much. We'll have a big party this weekend for her fourth when Grandma and Papa Jack get here.
