Now THAT was a fucking CONCERT!!!
Here's the somewhat brief run down...starting with a little preamble.
When I bought my tickets, the woman at Ticketmaster assured me that it was a great seat...in the middle section, middle of the second row. Couldn't get much better. I was so excited.
I got to the Civic Center, parked (with relative ease...fuck the Corel Center), and waited to get in. As soon as the doors open, I went to the concession stand. To hell with waiting, I bought a T-Shirt right away, and threw it on. Made my way down to the nirvana I apparently had...well, seat-wise, anyway, and discovered that the bitch lied to me. She lied. She up and lied....
It was the left section, it was a seat near the end (3rd from the end actually), furthest from the middle, and it was basically behind a wall of speakers and equipment. Now, the only GOOD thing about this seat was that there was no rows in front of me (how she thought it was the second row is beyond me), so I could stretch my legs while attempting to even SEE anything. So I waited...the seats around me weren't filling. I decided if they didn't fill by Alice time, I was snagging.
The opening band, Supergroup, was actually pretty damn good for an opener that no-one heard of. I think with a little marketing, they may have something. The only unfortunate thing that happened during their set was...yup, the seats all filled. But this was where my luck turned for the better...
The two seats on either side of me were taken by a 4-some, actually. Four friends who had got those seats thinking they were good ones (hahaha), but they had to split because there was one in the middle missing....guess who had that. So, they asked if I minded moving down and switching with the couple. Of course, being that it put me closer to the stage and a better view, I did them the favor.
Once Alice came on, they tapped me on the shoulder and the new group of 5 went to the front barricade and rocked out. We stayed there the whole time, and it was like...the greatest place to watch the show. The band was literally about 3 feet from us. All of a sudden, I was one of this group...we were high fiving and cheering and all sorts of shit. When I got a handfull of the Alice dollar bills (from Billion Dollar Babies), I made sure to give each of them one. The woman that was in the group had the honor of Alice singing Poison to her (which had us going nuts)...it was really cool.
The only bad thing...I left my digital camera at home, not sure if they were allowing them, and not wanting a rather expensive camera possible lost or broken or confiscated and kept. I soon realized during the show that they were allowed, and I was pissed. Then I noticed that one of 'our' group was taking photos on his cell phone (and good ones too since they were 3 feet away hehe), and I made it a point after the show to give him my email address to get copies. Before I could ask though, he let me know what his website was, and that he should have them posted in a couple of days. We shook hands all around and went our seperate ways, but damn...that was the most fun I've had in years.
I won't bother going into details about the show itself except to say it was AWESOME. Alice may be older, but you wouldn't know it from the show. It had a great mix of classics and new stuff, and the crowd, while small, was one of the most lively I've seen at a show...and all ages were there. It was a fucking cool show.
Ok, to bed...I'm going to be HELL at work tomorrow. Tired, deaf and with no voice...should be fun :)
