How very interesting, and very fitting. I might have expected that by your reputation your stepping stone might have been something of that nature.

Very similar to my own stepping stone....the dead body of my foster mother. Usurpation is such an ugly word. I prefer the word, 'liberation', don't you?

There is little that does not make its way throughout the colony, Sir. With every arrival on our shores, you can be certain that news of just who has landed, and every assorted detail has spread through this port town like wildfire. Your arrival was no different, M'Lord. Let us be honest; you did rather cause a bit more of a stir than most any other landing to date.

Nothing is so boring as those in power without the wit to use it to their greatest advantage. So tell me, Lord Beckett, do you play chess?

*dry smile* Ironically it was hardly my intent for the news of my arrival to cause such a commotion. I find it easier to work when I am not being gawked at, though my betrothed suffers more from the public interest than I do. Admittedly, having my name whispered does discourage misbehavior.
