A lesson I wish I had learned much earlier:

When you date somebody, it's a serious mistake to think you're only dating that person. You're not.

You're dating their parents. You're dating their siblings. You're dating their children and their friends. You're dating every problem they've ever had.

You have to steel yourself for that and decide whether it's really worth taking on all of the other person's issues, problems and troubles for the sake of a few sporadic hours of fun.

After 20 years, I've concluded that, in my case, it's not a worthwhile deal to take.
