An Old-Fashioned Day

Back temping -- funny how I'm always updating this thing when I'm at a temp gig. My last day before the Met season starts up again. Also have a seminar scheduled for tonight with ACS's acting guru, Johnny, although my temp agency boss is refusing to let me out early to get there on time. Grrrrr.

At least the Met's starting again on Monday -- they pay twice as well for the same amount of time and I get to do what I love to do instead of being stuck behind a desk.

Had a lovely week in Maine with ACS and family. Acadia truly is beautiful and Bar Harbor has its charm, but I'm glad to be back in the city. I greatly prefer the energy and movement here, as relaxing as the middle of nowhere can be. It was good to have some bonding time with her family -- I can't tell you how wonderful it is to have an S-O's family be a group of people I'm comfortable with.

In Albany, there's nothing but ongoing drama going on with my wayward cousin, who's been steadily sliding downhill with severe drug addiction and criminal activity. I'm glad R's finally extricated herself from being completely involved in his drama and hopefully he'll either get the help he so desperately needs or he'll finally find he can't escape the consequences of his actions. Either way, he needs to be off the streets.

It's greatly troubled me, watching him self-destruct. It's brought into sharp relief my own addictive proclivities, the massive amounts of drug abuse and hypocrisy throughout my family, as we all give up on helping one of our own in disgust and shame. It embarrasses me, the family dynamics of hatred and childishness. It makes me less and less enthusiastic for even seeing the extended family. I've got a wedding and bar mitzvah to go to, both out of town in the coming months. There's a part of me that doesn't even want to go.

How sad to lose connection with the people who've known me my whole life, because I'm sick of the bullshit and having to play the "golden boy" every second.

In the meantime, back to waiting for the mailroom elevator to ring with another delivery. >P
