So, last night I got to sleep at 9:30, actually, after studying for a solid six hours pretty hardcore. I felt really very confident about current issues, and a lot of numbers, because of course it only takes me a few times of reading something to soak it into my brain.
Anyway, we got up this morning and toodled off to Area 4, I studied some wildlife packets with Steph and a little more current issues, and then we got there. Okay, so it was muddy and the doughnuts they had for breakfast were crappy (NOT KRISPY KREME :-0) and the pears were so hard that me and Steph decided we could use enough of them as a bullet proof vest (we were at a skeet shooting range)
We divided up based on what color our dot on our nametag was, the red groups (which I was part of) went to soil first. We pwned, like I expected, because that's Jen and Lily's subject really, and Jen says she's not a beast at soils but she is. 100 points/500 points.
Next came CURRENT ISSUES (my section I studied like a wombat) which was sort of heartening because I wasn't kept in suspense for the entire day, but anyway, the questions were crap. We missed two from articles I didn't remember that well, two because the math was stupid, one because my decision was overturned, and another one because I confidently chose the wrong answer I thought was right. This sort of sucked, because I kept feeling the need to defend myself (even to OGREN) Got a 72% and the next highest overall was only 76%, but still... there was nothing I could do. Blech. I'll study harder for the next level, because I really want to win. 172/500 points
Then came Forestry. There were so many crap questions on this test:
The SPRUCE GOOSE was a plane that may or may not have been made out of wood. Why?
a)Wood is pound for pound stronger than steel
b)No such plane ever existed
c)This is not a fair question
d)None of the above.
When we met the test makers we realized this was some hick from Nash County who bragged about a two year community college degree to us for about 3 minutes and gave us Biltmore Sticks we didn't even need. It was kind of hard not to feel superior, but I tried. It explained why the questions were "crapuscular"<--(bwahaha *Envirogeekiness*) 268/500
Aquatics. Pwned. Easy. 368/500 points
Wildlife: Those PACKETS PAID OFF! And I pulled of a great feat of memory by knowing that "Saxtillus" is the latin genus that means "dwells among rocks". So that was three questions that memory saved the day on here. I was proud of myself. Um, that brings it to.. 460/500? I think that's right.
RESULT: 1st PLACE AT AREA 4 2005!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So, yeah, it'll be time for States on April 22. I'm sort of worried, but I'll study and try to pull my weight a little more. I'm kinda heavy ;D
Now it's time for Spring Break. Somehow I'm not terribly excited because I have to go to the mountains as well as the beach, and while I love the mountains I REALLY DON'T WANT TO GO THIS WEEK. AT ALL AT ALL AT ALL NONE.
*le sigh*
