*ponders* Well, being an art student and having done a few shows, you're not wrong in saying some folks a pretty shallow because some of them really are. I find that some just don't speak for themselves very well, though. Some, not all. With art that I really question the true motives of, I either look for or ask the gallery if they have an artist statement for the piece and sometimes it interesting to see what the artist has to say when they're not put on the spot. I'm kind of like that sometimes, mainly because I do so many things, so when I get asked what kind of stuff I do, it's hard to lob it into something easily explainable and I clip it down the basics. I imagine it probably sounds a bit shallow at the level, but if the interest is there and someone wants to know about a particular piece, sure, more detail can be given. I've occasionally seen similar patterns with classmates and their work, but sometimes, there really is nothing else there, even though the piece may be pretty thought provoking. It's things like *that* that I find bigger disappointments. The airheads in general, will always be airheads, so I just ignore them.
