New RPG I played!

Jun 13, 2006 11:53

Ok, so last night someone was not up for my company, so I hung out at SciFi and learned how to play DeadLands. From what I can tell, take the Wild West and add elements of Buffy. No slayers so far, but it looks like you could set one up with the right stuff. Anyway, I went from knowing nothing of the game to making a character and playing a ( Read more... )

Ok, so last night someone was not up for my company,

Everyone, by "someone" he means The Em. Like it's my fault, or something. ;P

It was the simplest character creation of all time. All you do is decide what you want your character to do, and his/her quirks, and this determines their stats.

That is incentive for me to play-it's easy. If you keep enjoying it and like that group, I might, might be interested in joining you. It sounds like it could be fun.

I'm going to play a character who is a copy of Sanzo from Saiyuki (sorry if I misspelled it, plz don't be an ass when correcting as it will piss me off!)

Spelled 100% correctly, my dear. And if you want the full name, he is Genjyo Sanzo.

Though, "plz"? *tsk, tsk*

I have a couple of changes to make after talking to my local Saiyuki NERD!

Your local Saiyuki NERD suggests that you come over and watch some more episodes.

Actually, your local Saiyuki NERD suggests that you get over your fear of manga, and read the fucking comic because it's 100% better than the anime.

Also, your local Saiyuki NERD has trouble articulating the Essence of Sanzo because he defies words; he's that cool.

And I am really ready to stop saying, "your local Saiyuki NERD" although it is almost as addicting as proclaiming the greatness of MY MUTANT BRAIN.

Remember, you love me.

Good. I was hoping he didn't mean me. I mean, I didn't even hear from him last night.

He's just bitching and moaning. It was his choice to go down there after work.

I know.

Deadlands does sound rather interesting. It'd be a nice change from all the D20 I've played in the past.

I haven't done much in-person RPing. I usually get pretty annoyed by the intelligence/hygiene/manners of my "compatriots" and check out early because of the lacking fun.

Of course I've only played a rather dull Marvel game and watched a little too much D&D. (By "too much" I mean watching more than one game.)

No wonder you didn't have any fun, you weren't playing with us. =)

Yeah. I was playing with . . . The Others.

They played every Saturday for about 12 hours. Do you know how obnoxious that is? And how boring? :P And I'm not kidding about the 12 hours. EVERY Saturday. They got together at noon and played until at least midnight, sometimes later.

Clearly they had NO lives.

hey buddy, if you wanna come with me some days to play, just let me know. They intend to play on Monday nights, starting around 6. You can either meet me at SciFi if Im coming from work, or if its a day off, you could meet me at my place, and we could ride over together. The big thing is that Andrew apparently cancels frequently, so they are trying to get another person to be a backup GM. So it is going to be an in-the-works process, but it sounds fun. And the best part is that the system really is the easiest system I have ever worked with for RPGs. If you read a very small amount of material, you can create a character like that *snaps fingers in a manly to the point fashion*. The hardest part is deciding what gear to take, but even that doesn't take long if you skim the gear, which is probably two pages broken down into list format. I've got the books you would need to check out, or you scan them at Coliseum. You need to scan Savage Worlds (core system) and Deadlands (specific scene).

It uses the Savage Worlds system now eh? I played that once, but everything was pre-made.

I still haven't received anything saying our Warstore order shipped, but I did notice that today that they charged my credit card. Hopefully that's a good sign.

I love that you like Saiyuki. &hearts

Have you only seen the anime, or have you also read the manga? The manga is so much better.
