Well, I'm about 2 weeks in to work here, and it actually doesn't suck. Yeah, long hours can be a pain but really I don't feel like I do that much, but then again not that much is expected of me. So far, I've heard that the people at the store really like me and they all think I catch on pretty fast. This doesn't amaze me much, but looking at the quality of individual they're probably used to getting I can see where they're coming from. I figure I got this management thing in the bag. It really doesn't take much effort, you just have to be logical and keep on top of the little things. There's a new store opening in 2008 and I think if I play my cards right I might be able to score 'store manager' before the end of my second year. If not, then I figure I can score a corporate job inside of 5 years. I'm already fixing corporate mistakes on the computers and I'm sure that won't go unnoticed since 99.9% of the store has no in depth understanding of MS Excel and only a handful can actually use it at a Jr. High level.
I don't get any store discounts, but I have found out that there is something that can be perceived as better than a discount. When anything in the store goes on clearance the employees get first dibs. Customers come second. I mean, we're selling it anyway, why not let the the employees save a few bucks and increase the sales for the store at the same time. Just today I picked up poker chips for $0.66 per set of 50 instead of the normal $9.99... I picked up 2 sets in 5 colors. I also got this freakin' awesome framed corkboard for $3.66 normally priced $24.99. I'd say that is definitely better than your normal employee discount. Plus, after I picked up the stuff I wanted it took no more than an hour for all the rest to be completely gone. Ah, the beauty of being able to pick out and save stuff before the store even opens. Well, that's about all I got for today. I gotta work all week, but I have the weekend off... Not sure what to do this weekend. Tsuki wanted to go to Bloomington, but after being at work all week I really hate making that 2 hour drive. What I'd really like to do is go on a day trip, shopping or something, to Naperville or Chicago... (That's a big hint there to you people living down south that actually know where the cool places are) Okay, I'm done talking now. Who knows, maybe I'll actually start being consistent with LJ again. It is quite nice to check in everyday and have the Aitai update. I actually look forward to that after work. Anyways, have a good one everybody.
...Keep your stick on the ice.
