**SPOILER HEAVY**
If you haven't read the graphic novel do not read any further.
Go out, get the GN, read it, come back, read on.
The NY Times
has a bit of new info concerning the Fox-WB lawsuit surrounding the WATCHMEN film - nothing to get concerned about though ;)
A lot of websites are buzzing with new WATCHMEN details at the moment. WB set up a screening of about 25-30 minutes worth of footage for those lucky enough to be invited along, including the first 2 minutes of the film. Moriarty, at AICN, has given pretty much
the most detailed transcript of that footage, thus far.
Speaking of the dvd release... Mike Smith and Danny DelPurgatorio (credits and transitions on "Mr Magorium's Wonder Emporium") are the directors of "
Watchmen: Tales of The Black Freighter" animated DVD, due to be released on the Tuesday following the film's cinematic unleashing. Gerard Butler is voicing the main character.
There are a few changes to the GN I've noticed while reading all the reports. I am concerned about these as there are certain plot points and scenes that are essential to character development. We won't really know why such changes were implemented until we see the film on the big screen. Even then I'd caution against rabid outcry - keep in mind that there is an "Absolute" dvd edition planned which will have extended and additional scenes in place. Only then will we see the live-action WATCHMEN in all it's true glory :D
This coming Monday there is an invite only screening in New York, of the same footage. The main difference there is that Dave Gibbons, WATCHMEN artist and co-creator, will be attendance.
He'll be flying out there immediately after his special presentation at the
Birmingham International Comics Show on Sunday 5th. The BICS presentation is primarily to launch his new book "
Watching the Watchmen" but one of the organisors has pretty much told me outright that footage from the film will also be shown.
Good thing I preordered my ticket and booked my place early then :)
The footage shown on Monday 6th, and subsequent Q&A with Zack and Dave, will be seen and fully transcribed by the admin of
WatchmenComicMovie.Com, which is arguably the best place for all things WATCHMEN related.
The 6th will also see the release of a new
WATCHMEN production journal.
Good times this weekend, oh yes!
The post-footage Q&A with Zack Snyder, production designer Alex McDowell and costume designer Michael Wilkinson, that lasted about 40 minutes was filmed by Devin over at

Due to it's length it's presented in 7 'episodes':

There are rumours, and they are just that at the moment, that WB will attach the next (red band) trailer for WATCHMEN to the new James Bond film "
Quantum of Solace".
I'll post confirmation, or denial, of that as soon as WB make the official announcement. Either way, we are looking at November/December for the next trailer. :D
