Batman 3 rumours and speculation!!! o_O

So, almost every fanboy and fangrrl on the intrawubs have been speculating about who's playing the villains in Batman 3. Names like Phillip Seymour Hoffman being tied to The Penguin, Angelina Jolie as Catwoman and either Johnny Depp or David Tennant as The Riddler. All good fun and typical of uninformed "internet experts" spouting their ideas as facts.

Turns out even The Telegraph are at it!

Funny them claiming these things as truth. Especially in light of possible recent developments.
Studio sources are apparently reporting that Bale is getting carried away with overall success of Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. Topping it all off is the early buzz surrounding his role as John Connor in the upcoming Terminator: Salvation trilogy, and his attitude is allegedly causing problems with Chris Nolan.

The last thing Nolan needs, before committing to Batman 3, is a lead with a newly inflated ego and hissy fits to match. With that in mind it appears that Depp won't now be cast as The Riddler. Who needs friction on the set between Bale and Depp right?! Especially if Bale believes Depp is trying to steal his thunder...

The apparent source claims that the way they are going to sort out these potentially embarressing and damaging (to the Bat franchise) problems are to drop Bale from Batman 3 altogether! No, this won't be a breach of contract for Bale and neither will Warner's have to buy him out. The contract he signed at the beginning, as did Nolan, was for an option of three films. That option meant they would have first refusal on doing any subsequent sequels. Here's the clincher for Warner's, they would rather have Nolan on board directing Batman 3 with no Bale, than have Bale on board with some other director. The studio, according to the source, could exercise it's rights and cite various reasons, attitude included, not to want Bale in the 3rd film.

Another thing to keep in mind is that Warner's hadn't long stated that their planned "Superman vs Batman" film had been shelved due to Bale not being fussed about doing it, and Superman Returns not performing as well as they had hoped. At the same time they reported this, Warner's confirmed that they were "rebooting" their Superman films in the same way Marvel did with The Incredible Hulk. That is, starting over from scratch and focussing on a more action-oriented Superman film with darker villains (Can anyone say "Brainiac"?! :D) and no Brandon Routh!

With that in mind, and if such an action was taken to keep Nolan and dismiss Bale, who would Warner's cast as the new Bruce Wayne? Simply put, the source alledges, Warner's have already asked Johnny Depp to step into the cowl. Yes, it's possible that we'll be seeing Depp taking over the role of Bruce Wayne/Batman in the next Batman film.

Following that, should it come to pass, don't be surprised if they announce the much rumoured "Superman vs Batman" film sometime around 2012.

Clearly, studio sources need to be taken with a pinch of salt and most of this could be whispers in the halls of power. Saying that, the reasons behind the non-start of the "Superman vs Batman" film and the rebooting of the Superman franchise are all confirmed by Warner's, so anything could happen!!!
