I'm doing my spotlight show this week, Wed 3-5pm. It's too bad we don't have live streaming at this time. Anyway, I'll be recording it for those wishing to listen.
YES! Can I make a request? "Foremans dog" off of End Hits. It's a sadly underrated song but it's so amazing. I could write a book about this band, they somehow managed to be everything good about music and art. High brow, yet still kicking out the jams. Abstract but direct. And probably the tightest quality control of any band in history (where are the bad albums and songs?... they dont exist!*). For being seen as iconic champions of indie, punk, DIY, etc... they managed to totally transcend it. Out of the context of scenes and movements they would still be good music. Their much discussed aestethic was just an extension of the art(they dont make shirts, they don't play 18+ shows, they don't rip people off with ticket prices, they don't write filler). I could go on... but I'll stop. Good choice sir. -Bob D.
*what one might consider a bad fugazi song, could be the next mans favorite. They were consistent in their refusal to be consistent, for a band that was so adventurous they always pulled off their experiments gracefully.
I agree, there are some songs I don't care for too much (mostly on the earlier albums, as their's not a single song on Red Medicine, End Hits or The Argument that I don't like) but I can't really call them bad. It all comes down to a matter of taste.
I honestly couldn't think of any band more deserving of being spotlighted. A close second for me would be Black Sabbath, which I might do next semester. I'm hoping to be able to extend the show to 3 hours, if the person usually on after me isn't coming, cuz there's way too much music for just 2 hours. As for the request, consider it done.
