An eventful day

I was writing and email to my parents and it ended up really long. Its a pretty descriptive account of my experiences, so if you have nothing better to do with your time, enjoy. The text is like this cuz I pasted from email.

I ran into my friend Dave and his friend Yoni on
thursday and they invited me to go to Brisbane for the
weekend. We hopped on the train with a larger group of
about 8 and hung out with them some of the time. Went
to an Irish pub which was great cuz there were all
these older people and folk songs being played in a
luad raunchy fashion, everyone was clapping along,
singing along and having a great time. One of the
performers did a song just voice and hand drum, then
when the song was done he stood up on a talbe and just
went off on the drum, I stared to clap and the whole
pub joined in, driving the rythym faster. It was a
cool thing to watch.

Dave and I left the pub a bit before everyone else and went for a walk. I started
watching this Polynesian man playing flamenco style
guitar. He was really good, just going from one thing
to another, after a few breaks we started talking. I
mentioned about my mandolin, which interested him. He
asked me if I'd like a play, and I said sure. A bit
rusty I was but it was fun. This guy sits next to me
wanting me to play the cords to some irish folk song,
i don't know it of course, he starts singing and I
trying to figure the chords but its no use. While he's
putting in his request an Aboriginal gets a bit
confrontational, saying "I like him better, thats his
gold" or something like that. After trying and failing
to follow the irish tune I return the guitar to its
owner, who enjoyed watching me because any true lover
of the guitar loves to hear it played. I lstend to him
for about twenty more minutes after Dave goes back to
the hostel. Then I say goodnight.

Next day we go to the open air market. I buy some
sweet shirts, one hawiian, one that I cant remember
what the style is called, and one thats straight out
of the 1970s (literally I think). After the market we
head towards this park with another market and a
public manmade beach, a huge pool with sand and trees
all around. Sweating more than I've ever sweated in my
life, I hit the beach, soon to be joined by Yoni and
then the rest of the group. The water was soooooooo
nice! After a few hours I split with the others to
join Dave going to the botanical gardens.

We took pictures and I shot video. I happened to be filming
birds when this man asks me if I like ducks. He starts
telling me all about the ducks, pointing out what kind
they are and how they are identified, and telling me
about hybrids. I told him about my mother's fondness
for birds. We ended up exchanging emails, and I let
him film some ducks, complete with expert comentary.

Dave and I watched the ducks some more, ran into some
friends of his, then met Yoni at the station and took
the train back to Robina. That was my weekend so far.
Hope every one is great, I've a presentation on
"Walkabout" for Wednesday, focusing on the conrast
between modern "civilized" life and the more close to
nature culture of the Aboriginals that has been
greatly diminnished, as shown in the film, as well as
the conflict between those two ways of life that faces
the characters. Should be fun.

I am addicted to "Twin Peaks", Ive been watching it on DVD and have seen the pilot through episode 7. David Lynch rules. Peace and blessings,
love Steve
