I have been in Australia for a few days now. The weather is quite nice, though windy all the time. Bond, my school, is in a tourist town, right next to Surfer's Paradise. All the shopping centers feel like Disney World. Had the first drink of my college career last night, at the bar, and met some interesting international folks. Don't think I even got a buz cuz I drank slowly. Picked up the CD by Sydney trio Wolfmother yesterday, and I've been listening to it over and over again. I heard their single "Woman" on the airplane radio, and though the sound was shitty I knew I had to look into this band. Their EP has elements of Led Zeppelin, Blue Cheer, The White Stripes, Kyuss, The Who and Sabbath of course. "Woman sounds like Kyuss with Jack White doing his best Ozzy impression, "The White Unicorn" is very Zeppelin sounding with the brutalist riff for the chorus that would make tony Iommi cry, and a nice spacy breakdown. Every one of the four songs is quite different from the others. Production is great: lo-fi sounding but very full and well mastered. I guess these guys are huge in Australia. If you see this at the record store pick it up!
