“Hey, isn't that the Shichibukai guy over there?” Tilting his head to the side, Law tried to peer around the tables separating him from the large man he was trying to catch sight of. “The crocodile one with the scar.”
Only giving him a grunt in response, Kidd sank his teeth into a greasy chicken leg and turned his head to follow his line of sight, chewing as he tried to pick a familiar face out. There were quite a few tables towards that side of the bar, and all of them were overflowing with pirates.
“Where? Under that girl in the straw hat?” He asked, pointing them out with his drumstick to answer the curious expressions on his crew-mates.
“Yeah, see?”
“He's an ex-Shichibukai.” Killer pointed out, leaning back in his seat and folding his arms.
Waving off the correction calmly, Law shrugged and reached over to pick up his drink. “Who'd you think that girl is in his lap?”
Over at the table, there was indeed a small woman sitting in Crocodile's lap. From their view point, she faced away, but they watched patiently as she pawed at his chest, climbing up his body so she could get her arms around his neck. Crocodile, for his part, appeared pretty calm about the situation. His hook reached around her to support her back and help her balance whilst he continued to sipping at a glass of wine.
“She's pretty friendly.” Kidd murmured, taking another bite from his drumstick.
By now the girl was quite literally hugging Crocodile's head, forcing his face into her ample chest. His jaw moved to speak, though none of them could hear what he was saying from this distance. Whatever he said, it didn't seem to discourage her and Crocodile's reddening face was smashed into her cleavage.
“Really friendly.”
When Crocodile finally managed to escape the death-grip, he reached up to rub his temples with his thumb and forefinger, all the while helping the girl down using his hook.
“Y'know, she is wearing a straw-hat.” Kidd pointed out, tossing a meat-stripped bone onto his plate and leaning forward to grab another drumstick. “'s kinda familiar.”
“Are you suggesting what I think you are suggesting, Eustass?” Law asked, looking interested in the idea.
The next sequence of events felt like they were happening in slow motion. A rubber hand stretched across the bar, heading directly for Kidd's head. The man in question opened his mouth, about to bite into his drumstick. His lips barely brushed over the greasy skin before it was snatched away, accompanied by the elastic sound of rubber snapping back.
There was an uncomfortable silence among the group. An expression of rage was slowly encroaching in Kidd's face. Across the bar, Crocodile seemed to be telling Luffy off, though it didn't last long. A sweet look from her diffused his anger with ease, and he settled for wearing a disapproving frown as she nibbled the meat from the bone.
“Looks like you were right, Captain.” Killer tilted his head a little, producing a soft hum behind his mask as Kidd pushed his chair back from the table. Cutlery rattled before lifting up into the air behind him, forming a rapidly growing, rattling cloud in the centre of the bar.
It didn't take long to attract the attention of most of the patrons, even managing to turn Crocodile's head. Luffy however, remained unaware, only bothering to look over by the time Kidd was halfway across the bar.
“See, this is why you shouldn't steal food.” Crocodile explained in an exasperated tone, as if he'd gone through this a number of times before. He was about to go further into detail about how she shouldn't go about causing unnecessary trouble, but stopped when she tilted her head so far up she was looking at him upside down, the picked and cleaned bone sticking out the side of her mouth.
How the hell he ended up with someone with such repulsive table manners he did not know. In the corner of his eye he could see Kidd approaching them still. Add troublesome to that too.
Despite the fact that Luffy would probably comfortably handle herself in a situation like this, Crocodile still felt the need to raise his hook in front of her protectively, directing Kidd an unimpressed look as he reached up with his hand to pluck the bone from her mouth. Tossing the saliva-dripping bone onto a plate, Crocodile picked up a napkin and wiped off her lips. There, much better.
“Oi, what makes you think you can go around snatching my food, straw-hat?” Putting on his most intimidating pose, Kidd glared down at Luffy before peering up at Crocodile and directing him a derisive snort. The tension between the pair was building fast, but Luffy didn't seem to care.
She looked up at Kidd when addressed, blinking. Crocodile glanced between the pair with a raised eyebrow, before leaning down to speak to Luffy. “Do you know this pirate?”
There was a long pause as Luffy looked at Kidd with an air of intense concentration. Poking her chin with her finger she frowned, the cute expression making Crocodile unconsciously guide her closer to himself with his hook. Behind Kidd, a few pieces of cutlery dropped to the floor. Both men waited on her answer.
“Nope. Never seen that lip monster.” She finally chirped giving Crocodile a shrug.
“You damn liar, straw-hat. I know it's you, even behind a pair of breasts!”
“She says otherwise, so I suggest you leave.” To be honest, Crocodile was more inclined to believe this angry stranger rather than Luffy. She didn't really have the best record for memory. Cringing when he looked down to find her with a finger firmly wedged up her nose, Crocodile ran his hand down his face and closed his eyes for a few seconds.
Kidd was rather amused by the spectacle, and his angry expression was soon replaced by a suitable smirk. Looking over his shoulder to Law and other others, he called out to them across the bar; “That's definitely straw-hat.”
