My ascension, as mandated by Project: Uplift, has been rather abruptly curtailed. I have gone from three monitors to two. I know, three monitors, yes, get over it, that's just how I roll. Or, how I would roll, if I was not Icarus with hot heels right now...
So, my awesome scheme, which is awesome, has been cut short by technology and ignorant smarmy sales people. Sales, often, does not include technical knowledge. Buyer beware, yes, yes, and prattle on, but this is an important distinction.
The point of knowledge which was upheld as a selling point, was that the card I have purchased (which is fully sick, mate) came with all the adapters required. Whereas the other card required an adapter which cost around $150.00. Funny story, my card also requires one of those! Yeah, take a knee gang!
The Sapphire Radeon 5970 (The one I didn't purchase);
2 x DVI
1 x Mini DP (Requires an active adapter to display to a 'legacy' (read VGA/DVI/HDMI) input.)
The Sapphire Radeon 5870 Eyefinity 6 Edition (The one I did purchase);
6 x Mini DP (Requires an active adapter to display to a 'legacy' (read VGA/DVI/HDMI) input. Now it only requires one, but this is not apparent on the box, was not known by the sales rep, and is only illuminated in the online manual available through the CD provided with the card... ARGH!!!)
Now, don't get me wrong, I still love this GPU. It is a powerhouse! However it is a powerhouse that requires me to go get a peripheral that is so cutting edge, most manufacturers are just now rolling them into production. Availability is scarce and prices border on 'pants on head retarded'!
I literally just got of the phone with StarTech who told me they were about to release an adapter that would do what I need in a couple of months. My GPU requires technology which isn't even widely manufactured yet. Seriously???
But do you know what really gets me about this? It's that it's Apple's fault! They are the one pushing the new tech of Displayport. HDMI is now 'legacy' because those bastards at Apple have to be different!?! I demand a great hammer of samening!
