And so an update…
So. It happened a few weeks ago… I met my sister.
You probably wonder why it took me this long to post… well, I needed to assimilate everything. In a nutshell - Holy crap! I have the best and coolest sister in the world and I love her dearly.
So… the details…
As you are aware I have been talking with my sister Le for over 4 months… never met her before. If you have been paying attention to my facebook status’s you will know that I was bouncing off the walls the night before she arrived.
So Jena and I arrive at the airport and I’m literally scanning the crowds for the face I have tried to etch into my mind (it would have been a little embarrassing to not recognize her) and thankfully I did and she recognized me.
Upon seeing her wearing this shirt
I knew everything was gonna be alright… lol. I mean any big sister who wears this shirt has got to be cool right?
So, we hug and look each other over… and then I turn to her husband Rich. Who honestly strikes me right then and there as one of the most gentle spirits I have ever encountered.
It’s funny how they complimented each other. He has this gentle spirit with this amazing intelligence and she is this grit and steel in her. That isn’t to say that he wasn’t strong or that she wasn’t smart. But the way they meshed because of their strengths and weaknesses was amazing. I’m sure they would probably laugh at my initial evaluation but that is what I saw, and I thought and still think it was amazing. I’m very happy that she found such an incredible man.
So, we walk to the Jeep talking… and we head to Rosemary’s café for breakfast. (excellent place to eat BTW) and again sit for a few hours talking and getting to know each other… We dropped them off at the Hyatt Regency and let them get unpacked and settled in, and of course to give them a chance to acclimatize to us and the Colorado altitude.
We met up a few hours later and went to the aquarium. We all slowly meandered through the aquarium enjoying ourselves and just truly enjoying each others company. Jena had to leave the aquarium early to help her sister with the new baby and so we just sat at the shark tank for about 30 minutes talking, watching the fish and sharks, and getting used to each other.
For a late Lunch we went to Casabonita… a must for any South Park fan who visits Colorado. Honestly it’s like a rite of passage if you are a native to Colorado and a kid…
After a snack a Casabonita (I mean, come on… you certainly don’t go for the food! Yuck!)
We sat and talked for a few hours…then we drove downtown to our real dinner at the Chop house… best food EVER… pricey but so very much worth it…
Then we dropped them off and went to bed.
Saturday… We started off the day by going to Red rocks convert theatre, the 11th wonder of the rock world according to Rolling Stone Magazine. Then we went up to Estes Park for a Ghost tour of the Stanley Hotelotel. Then back down to my moms house for a family BBQ. Le and Rich met my kids, our other sister Laura, and my mom… and we had a splendid night…
Sunday morning we had breakfast at Rosemary’s café (again) and then simply sat around our house chatting and talking. On our way to the airport we saw a tornado, and then got into the airport just before the heavens opened up and dumped the Atlantic ocean on us through a sieve.
I miss her… my sis… the coolest sis a guy could honestly ask for. J
