The path to enlightenment is...basketball?
It was a very weird experience that I had the other day. I was just shooting around at a local school and as I was practicing free throws I realized that the key to making them was simply keeping myself under control. When I was able to keep my body and mind under my complete control, then the only way I could miss is if my internal distance measurements were a bit off. For the next hour or so I was just focusing on that exact thing. Whether the ball went in or not was inconsequential, all that mattered was that I controlled myself completely. It almost felt like meditation, but obviously it was a more tangible experience. Sure enough I made a lot more shots. Of course, some of that is because I was physically practicing, but feeling in control gave me that feeling of certainty that the ball would go in. I started instantly trying to think of all the other moments in my life where I could use this principle.
In the last two days I've made the most money I've ever made as a delivery driver and scored the most points I've ever had in a basketball game. Maybe it's just luck or a cumulation of developing skills, but it sure feels like I changed something.
