Thumbs down for Peking Opera

Well I was really looking forward to this, Meghan, my friend Ernestine her boyfiend, and myself all attended "Blossoms in the Snow A Night of Peking Opera" at the Jubliee Auditoriam tonight... and while impressive the show left a lot to be desired. They said they picked shows that would be easy for non-chinese to understand...

Monkey King Fights 18 Warriors
Farewell my concubine
Something from the Romance of the Three Kingdoms
and... I forget what the other two were called.

They were meerly excerpts from different operas designed to showcase a different element of Chinese opera, by a world class troupe (on their only canadian destination)

But they only supertitled the sung dialouge (there was a lot of spoken or semi-sung dailouge) and the sueprtitles were as engrishy as a HK bootleg, "I am worry about the defeat" .

We left during the final performance... while it was somewhat fun the lack of organization left something to be desired... this is supposed to be the best Chinese opera troupe out there... at least they could do is make sure we understood what they were performing....

well most of the audience was chinese or understood it so I guess even though it's an english speaking country we were the odities on the stage.

At least I could read most of the chinese characters in the supertitles.

very disapointing.
