Last week, my old Circuit Court judge (that i practiced in front of for 10 years) who was getting fucking eye surgery so he could see his son graduate from college drops dead after the surgery. The guy was a gentle man, a civil-rights trailblazer in Fredericksburg that was one of the first class of black students to integrate the public high school. The funeral is this Saturday morning.
Now i get the call that Dan Schellhorn, a long-time lay leader in MCC and my fucking friend just died from pancreatic cancer. He supported me all through my candidacy, and beyond, and knew what i was being called to do--and we never spoke of it, simply "eye-talked". The last time i spoke to him he was in the hospital. Fucking cancer.
And Brigid's dog is dying of cancer, too.
