I love happy endings! I was a bit surprised it was Ronan who just suddenly did the assassination, but it makes sense. Ronan is sick of having to work with someone he deeply dislikes and distrusts, playing along for decades because it is for the better of District 2. He has a reason to believe it may not be as helpful as he thought it was.

What a surprise it must have been that he has to make a quick decision, assassinate President Snow, and then get to be President Ronan! It is good that he is 25 years younger, because he seemed like he was much too tired to consider this during the rebellion.

For quick thoughts, though they may not be completely faithful to your renderings of the characters, and I apologize for that:

Despite what the television claimed, that Ronan was Snow's secret successor this whole time, Dexter had his doubts. True, there were the Peacekeepers behind Ronan as he publicly grieved the death of his friend, Coriolanus, and made announcements and everything seemed to be going through the proper channels, but his instincts told him that something was suspicious. A lot of Peacekeepers came from Two anyhow. It wouldn't surprise Dexter if they were covering up for something.

Twos would be even more favoured now. He slightly envied Callista's freedom before, but a sharp anger grew thinking of all Two was exempt from before and would be exempt from now. He doubted a change in President would make too much of a difference. Yet even the older Ones gave Ronan a bit of added respect, so maybe this new President would make a few changes.

But, wait. What did that newly promoted Two just say?

When Heidi turned on the television for the mandatory news viewing, it was a tremendous shock to hear that President Snow had died--- and that his named successor was their Ronan, their oldest victor. It made sense. Everyone knew that Coriolanus and Ronan had a special friendship, though she would confess to not knowing too much of the details.

And then the press releases announcing immediately "cessation" of the Games! Her thoughts immediately went to her son--- their last victor--- her Brutus, who she had seen leaving on a train last. She was only half-listening and totally grateful as President Ronan explained briefly how the Districts had paid enough and of the future changes.

This changed things, didn't it? Perhaps--- the hope she had given up out of duty started to return--- perhaps things were changed now. Perhaps she could hope to see Brutus again.

"Welcome to the first ever Panem Games! I'm your host, Caeser Flickerman!"

Maysilee Donner glanced at her fellow teammate from her district, but Haymitch gave no hints of anything but boredom. She had been worried when her name was drawn for the Games. What if this was all a trick? She had worried on the train, always inwardly, and worried in the training weeks as they were instructed how to shoot, climb, and run. Now, they were in the arena. It was certainly not arranged like any Arena she had ever seen before.

The worry finally began to subside. Things really had changed.

"First up is archery!"

A line of targets were neatly arranged. Twenty-six children from the 12 districts and the capitol took their places to compete.

Valeria Snow wrinkled her nose as she watched the games begin. The long-honored Games had been turned into a sporting event! And no longer being able to purchase the company of her favourite Victors. And not making President Snow's deathday a national holiday!

She had known that President Two would not be the best successor for her father.

Still, one had to make the best of things, so she visited the bet taker to put her money on those handsome Ones.

To the surprise of very few, the clearly very athletic (Didn't they have Athletic Clubs and Centers all over?) District Two competitors won the most medals in new Panem Games. It took the edge off that there would be a national celebration and special food boxes for all the districts (and the capitol, though they hardly needed it!) to celebrate the competitive event of coming together.

A side news release noting that the minister of economy would be optimizing supply chains to ensure a greater quantity of food reached every district brought almost as much joy.
